The Panhard AML (called the AML 245 by Panhard) 60/90 is a light armoured car with permanent 4×4 drive for mobility. It can carry either a 90 mm quick firing low pressure gun, or a 60 mm breach loading mortar as main weapons. Night vision equipment enables night time operations, and it is provided with a modern telecommunications system.

An armored personnel carrier (APC) version was also developed, the Panhard M3. The M3 and the AML share 95% of working parts, encouraging many countries to employ both the M3 and the AML in order to reduce such operational costs.

Fitted with coil spring suspension and drum brakes, the AML lacks hydraulic assist on either brakes or steering; only front wheels steer. It also uses nitrogen-filled inner tubes (in this case Hutchinson V.P.-P.V.s), similar to the EBR, providing run-flat capability, on 16 in (41 cm)-diameter wheels; these its 11 in (280 mm)-wide Michelin tires can be deflated to reduce ground pressure to as low as 70 to 110 kPa (10 to 16 psi).

History[]

The AML 60 was developed as a derivative of the Daimler Ferret. During France's war against Algerian independence, the vehicles that France used at the time, the M8 Greyhound and the Panhard EBR were ineffective against insurgency combat. It would need to demand mortar shells and mobility. When France purchased the British Ferrets, they were only capable of housing a single machine gun which was only used for inadequate purposes. In 1956, plans were laid out by the French Ministry of Armed Forces for a car with the similar dimensions of the Ferret but with a mortar sticking out on the front. By 1959, 2 prototypes were completed. One fitted with a MAS AA-52 machine gun and a 60mm Brandit mortar. They would be put into service by the 60s but by the time it happened, the war in Algeria had already come to an end. France would then export their AML 60s to other countries like South Africa. They would ultimately be retired and replaced by the Panhard AML 90 in the light Cavalry Regiments.

The last AML 60 that were French service were used in reserve divisional combined arms regiment's armored squadron which had two platoons of AML 60 supported by jeeps.

Overview[]

Available to NATO forces, the AML 60 is a prerequisite to unlocking the AML 90 Lynx. One of many cheap and versatile units in the game. It lacks the  fire power of more costly units but can be deployed quickly and cheaply when needed. Before patching in WG:EE it was bugged, the mortars kept track of its target and anticipated its movement, making it  incredibly efficient against mobile targets.

Excells at harassing and killing infantry with accurate rapid mortar fire and moving back to safety quickly, in WG:EE these could be the Bane upon all infantry type with the effectiveness of HE rounds, in WG:AL they have been knocked down to a harrassment role doing miniscule to no dmg to vehicles and only quickly killing infantry in the open.

Like it's variant the AML 90 Lynx, the AML 60 is a support unit. Ideal for ambush or part of a second assault wave. This unit differs from it's variant in that it also carries mortar rounds capable of dealing HE damage far beyond the range of it's standard 60mm HEAT round. Mortar rounds, much like Artillery, can be effective at breaking the morale of enemy Infantry and Armour.
