Autocannon M693 F1 (20mm)

Not really a tank destroyer, this autocannon-armed AMX-10P Milan can be a useful support in tank fights. Because of its poor accuracy, you might prefer less versatile ATGM-only armed tank destroyers to destroy armoured vehicles, due to the weapon's overall unreliability.

Available to NATO forces, the AMX-10P Milan gives access to the AMX HOT.

The AMX-10P Milan's main characteristics compared to other ATGM tank destroyers are:

  • Poor ATGM accuracy
  • Armed with an autocannon

All of the other characteristics are average.

For two-thirds its price, Soviet forces can use the BMP-2, which is otherwise similar, but has superior missiles and can transport infantry, and can be fielded in greater numbers; the French unit's only advantages here are that it carries 12 missiles, instead of 3, and can be used in motorized and support decks.

The AMX-10P Milan was developed after 1965 to replace the AMX-VCI in French service, and the first prototypes were completed in 1968. It has NBC protection and amphibious capabilities, with hydro jets to swim in water. The AMX-10P Milan has been operated in the past by France, the United Arab Emirates, Greece, Indonesia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Mexico.

The first production vehicles were delivered in 1973 to the 7th Mechanised Brigade stationed at Reims.

An active armour kit is currently available. The French Army is currently replacing its AMX-10P Milan vehicles with the new Véhicule Blindé de Combat d'Infanterie. The first regiment to retire all its AMX-10P Milan was the 35th Infantry Regiment in Belfort in December 2008.

  • Like most tank destroyers the AMX-10P Milan has poor optics compared to its range. It is best to be close to reconnaissance units when fielding an AMX-10P Milan.
  • Also, tank destroyers are best used in ambushes and in small groups, or right behind your main tanks.
  • Remember that as an ATGM weapon, if it loses sight of its target, the missile is lost, so position them where you will have a clear field of view. The ATGM can't be shot and will be lost if the tank destroyer moves during the process of shooting.
  • Due to its Autocannon, the AMX-10P Milan is able to deal damage to Helicopters and to stun armoured vehicles. This versatility is this vehicle's main advantage, giving it the ability to operate with a bit less support to achieve its objective, but because of the ATGM's poor accuracy the AMX-10P Milan is best used as a support vehicle with anti-tank opportunities.
