Bear vs. Dragon is the first campaign of Wargame: Red Dragon. The campaign focuses on a border conflict between China and the Soviet Union in 1979, caused by the former's intervention in Vietnam.[1]

  • This conflict may have been inspired by the Sino-Soviet border conflict (中苏边界冲突), a seven-month military conflict between the Soviet Union and China in 1969.
  • The title could is a reference to Tom Clancy's political thriller novel The Bear and the Dragon. The novel describes a Chinese invasion into Southeast Russia.
  • For unknown reasons, the Soviet forces gain several out of timeframe units like the T-80A, Su-27S and the Mi-28 in their formations, making it that much harder for the combined Chinese and North Korean forces.
