The F-1 is a Multirole Combat Aircraft available to Japan and BLUFOR decks in Wargame: Red Dragon.
The Mitsubishi F-1 is the first post-World War II airframe indigenously designed by Japan. It is a twin-engine, single-seat supersonic multirole aircraft developed by Mitsubishi and Fuji Heavy Industries. Based upon the T-2 trainer, the F-1 replaced the aft seat with an avionics bay, and the type was designed to be compatible with a variety of weapons to include guided and unguided bombs, anti-ship and air-to-air missiles.
The F-1 is a relatively inexpensive multi-role combat aircraft available to Japanese and BLUFOR decks. The type is armed with two GCS-1 M117 semi-active laser homing bombs, two AAM-1 air to air missiles and a 20mm Vulcan cannon. The guided M117 features good high explosive power and exceptional accuracy. The F-1 can also attack enemy helicopters operating in its vicinity with its AAM-1 and Vulcan compliment. The major drawbacks of the F-1 are its moderate ECM and lack of a long range missile. It is vulnerable to long range SAMs and AAMs, and cannot strike at enemy fighters at long ranges as a result. Given the 90-point cost per airframe, the F-1 provides exceptional strike capabilities against all but the best armored enemy assets for a low price, and its attack capabilities easily outweigh the aircraft's drawbacks with good timing, or with a fighter or SEAD escort.
