The F-86F Kyokukō (旭光, Rising Sunbeam) is an aircraft that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon.
The F-86 Sabre is a single-engine, single-seat, sub-sonic fighter developed by North American Aviation in the late 1940's. The Sabre entered service in 1949 and saw extensive use in the Korean War where its crews clashed with Soviet MiG-15s, and the type was exported heavily. Japan acquired 180 F-86F's from the United States in between 1955 and 1957, while Mitsubishi Heavy Industries also licence-built 300 of the type between 1956 and 1961. The F-86 carries six .50 caliber M2 Browning machine guns in the nose, and could be armed with rockets and bombs for light strike purposes.
The F-86F Kyokko is an inexpensive, lightly armed strike platform available to Japan and Blue Dragons decks. At 60 points, it is among the least expensive BLUFOR fixed-wing aircraft in the game. It is armed with two 340kg napalm bombs, and a single M2 Browning heavy machine gun. It is a cost-efficient choice for area-denial operations, or to flush troops and vehicles out of cover with its napalm bombs. Its gun is largely ineffective against aircraft or helicopters, due to low accuracy, poor suppression, and low internal ammunition. The type lacks ECM and its relatively slow speed of 750km/h leaves the type vulnerable to AAA, SAMs, and enemy aircraft's AAMs.
The low cost, however, and 5-per-card availability allows these bombers to serve in a variety of roles. They can be called in quickly, and in rapid succession as a reaction to an enemy infantry assault, or to deny vehicles passage over burning terrain. Additionally, the F-86F can serve as a cheap way to prod the enemy's air defenses, to get an idea for what kind of resistance to expect or what kinds of enemy anti-air artillery is in place before committing to a more costly attack.
