FV701 Ferret was first built in 1949 as a result of a British Army requirement issued in 1947 to replaced 'Light reconnaissance cars' like the Daimler Dingo. FV701 Ferret Mk.2 was equipped with a turret mounting a M1919.
These were used in 60s era Armored recce regiments and armored car regiments serving in the line troops along with serving in the Recce Troop of the Armored Regiment. These were replaced by Fox and Scorpion in 1970s. Ferrets were used as liaison vehicles for various line formations until after the Gulf War.
