The JAS-39 Gripen is a tactical air superiority fighter available to Sweden in the upcoming Red Dragon DLC #3.
The JAS-39 Gripen (English: Griffin) is a single-engine, single-seat, supersonic air superiority fighter developed by Saab for the Swedish Flygvapnet. The type was developed to replace the older Draken and Viggen fighters, and first flew in 1988. Featuring movable canards ahead of the wings and a powerful engine, the Gripen is a maneuverable fighter, which also benefits from a powerful radar and long range air to air missiles, making it deadly at both beyond visual range as well as in dogfighting.
The Gripen is a prototype air superiority fighter available to Swedish decks in Wargame: Red Dragon. The aircraft provides Swedish decks with an aircraft comparable to the American F-16C Block 52, and provides Sweden with a fighter that can threaten or match advanced REDFOR aircraft, such as the FULCRUM or FLANKER series. The JAS-39 is armed with four long-range fire-and-forget AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles, two short-range fire-and-forget AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles, and a Mauser BK-27 27mm autocannon. The type has a tight turn radius, very good ECM (40%), and excellent top speed. The combination of aerial arms allows the Gripen to handle enemy fighters or helicopters without difficulty. The chief drawbacks of the Gripen are its cost, and the fact that it is a prototype, making it available only to Sweden or Scandinavian decks.
