The Kūtei '90 (Japanese: 空挺, meaning "Airborne") is a Commando Infantry unit for the JSDF faction that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
Howa 89F Shiki is the folding stock variant of the Howa 89 Shiki used by paratroopers, tankers, reconnaissance, and armored infantry. Carl Gustav M2 entered JSDF service in 1979/80 with local production in 1984. Minimi entered JSDF service in 1993 to replace Type 62 (62 Shiki) GPMG.
Overview[]
Kūtei '90, in contrast to the base Kūtei unit, is armed more typically for BLUFOR commando units -- an assault rifle, FN Minimi, and an M2 Carl Gustav. This transforms them from a more anti-infantry focused unit into a 'jack of all trades' type unit; Kūtei '90 are capable of dealing with most shock infantry but are left vulnerable to other commando units, and can handle most medium and light vehicles from a fair distance, but is not quite capable of taking on tanks directly. One major advantage that this variation of Kūtei has over the base variant is that it has the option of using a HMV as a transport, which gives it more flexibility.
Compared to the other Blue Dragons commando unit, UDT/SEAL, Kūtei '90 generates a higher anti-infantry DPS, although their SAW doesn't generate quite as much suppression as UDT/SEAL's M60. However, the biggest difference is in the quality of their transport options: the KM900 is much sturdier than the HMV offered to Kūtei '90, and UDT/SEAL also have the alternative option of the tracked LVTP-7.
