The Kuznetsov Air Group is one of the naval groups that can be deployed by the player in the Climb Mount Narodnaia campaign of Wargame: Red Dragon.

Description[]

The Kuznetsov Air Group is immediately deployable once the Kuznetsov Naval Group has been deployed, they serve with distinction during the battle between the Kuznetsov and the Enterprise task forces, helping to sink the enterprise, its task force, and the reinforcements it was escorting in a series of naval battles.

Composition[]

1st Naval Anti-Ship Squadron[]

These MiG-29s can strike ships with their Kh-31 missiles whilst attacking aircraft and helicopters with their R-73As. Deploy them as a group in order to overwhelm enemy anti-ship defenses.

Use only in naval sectors.

It costs 15 points to deploy and consists of:

2nd Naval Anti-Ship Squadron[]

These Su-27Ks are formidable flexible fighters; they can attack enemy aircraft and ships.

Beware, they only have one anti-ship missile, so reserve this for isolated naval targets.

It costs 10 points to deploy and consists of:

Tips & Tricks[]

  • The MiG-29 squadron is worst than useless and should never be deployed until it is literally the very last thing left that can be deployed, while its 4 ASMs may sound nice in theory, their missile range is much shorter compared to the SAMs that the Kongo carries, meaning they will likely get shot down trying to attack. You can try sniping the smaller Oliver Hazard Perrys with them but they still run heavy risk of getting shot down.
  • The Su-27 squadron is the choice squadron to knock out Task Force Enterprise, even though it only carries a single missile this missile is the VERY long-range P-270 Moskit that the Udaloy II and the Sovremenny carry. Although it is shorter ranged than the ship launched ones, it is still longer ranged than most missiles and can hit the US ships outside their SAM range, remember to organise them such that all can fire at the same time to overwhelm the CIWS of the US ships. The best way is to call them out offset from the target, once they are at a 90-degree angle from the target turn them around so that they form a single rank against the ship.
  • Although it is only stated in the MiG-29 squadron description, neither squadron can be deployed to cover land forces as they exist only in the naval tab. However, it is possible to call them into the field where a naval sector is available and/or occupied. However, this scenario is rather rare.
  • It is possible to assign either squadron to land-based airfields, a strategy that could be helpful if one prefers to be defensive with their Anti-Ship aircraft in these squadrons, as it will preserve the aircraft in the event if the escort fleet is destroyed. The trade-off would be that a slight range would be lost due to its inability to travel with the carrier while being assigned to the land-based airfield.
