Available to NATO forces, the LAV-25 Scout is a recon variant of the LAV-25 suited for reconnaissance missions on the battlefield. It has more range, more ammo, better optics then the LAV-25 but it can't carry troops.
USMC used LAV-25 in Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion starting in 1983. These were used for motorized Reconnaissance by Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion . Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion had five lime companies with three platoons with four LAV-25 and a weapon platoon of 4 LAV-AT and 2 LAV-M. These LAV-25 carried three Scouts in the back.
During the Gulf War, 3-73rd Armored battalion of the 82nd Airborne used LAV-25 in their Scout Platoon. After the Gulf War, the LAV-25 were returned to USMC stocks.
Marine Expeditionary Unit was equipped with a reinforced platoon up to a company from the Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.
Marine Expeditionary brigade were equipped with either reinforced company or Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion.
