The M163 Vulcan is a self-propelled anti-aircraft gun for the United States in the Wargame series, it was first introduced in Wargame: European Escalation.

History[]

M163 Vulcan entered US Army service in 1968, complementing the M48 Chaparral. It's main gun is a variant of the M61 20mm Gatling gun mounted on a M741 carrier. The M168 has the capability to fire in short burst of 10, 30, 60 or 100 rounds or countious fire of 1000 rpm. The M163 is equiped with a range only rader in AN/VPS-2, and an M61 optical lead-calculating sight. Early use had disadavatages in limited range and night engagment.

In US service, M163 were used in a battery in 70's era Heavy Division Air Defense Artillery battalions to provide air defense to manuever units. In the Gulf war era Air Defense Artillery Battaion, M163 served in two platoon with 9 units each in one of the three Air Defense Artillery batteries serving along side a Chaparral platoon and a Stinger Platoon.
