The M1A2 Abrams is a prototype Main Battle Tank (MBT) for the United States which first appeared in Wargame: Red Dragon.
The M1A2 Abrams is a continuation of the Abrams MBT series, manufactured by General Dynamics Land Systems. The A2 is a modified version of the M1A1 Abrams, providing the tank's commander with an independent thermal viewer, weapon station, precision navigation equipment, controls and displays linked by a digital data bus. Its armor has been improved, and the type employs the same 120mm M256 smooth-bore cannon as the M1A1. The M256 was designed by Rheinmetall AG for the Leopard 2 series of West German tanks, and is manufactured by license in New York. The M1A2 is currently used by the US Army
The M1A2 is the ultimate tank available to American and NORAD decks (save for the Marine decks, which instead can deploy the very similar M1A1HC). This vehicle is designed to dominate enemy ground vehicles with superior armor and firepower. With an accurate and very well stabilized main gun (of the same family carried by the Leopard 2A5), the Abrams can lead an armored column push along with its supporting vehicles and still able to fire accurately on the move. With its impressive 22 points of frontal armour, it can withstand the majority of REDFOR anti-armor weapons (though almost all top tanks have the same). The type also features two machine guns, which help the tank to engage infantry in the open and close flying helicopters. M1A2 gives the player the highest AP for tank gun - 24. This allows M1A2 to devastate all top tanks on it's range.
The main drawbacks of the M1A2 are its cost and range. At 180 points per tank, the M1A2 is a precious asset, and although its front armor is tied second, only beaten by the Challenger 2, it is vulnerable to attack from the side and rear. It is also a large tank, easy to spot by enemy forces, and vulnerable to attack by helicopters and strike aircraft armed with high-AP Air to Ground Missiles (AGMs). Similar top-of-the line tanks, such as the T-80U, have the ability to defeat the M1A2's front armor.
