M752 Lance is a MLRS that appears in Wargame: Red Dragon.
History[]
129 Afdeling Veldartillerie was equipped with 6 MGM-52C Lance surface-to-surface missile systems. Each of the two batteries has three Lance launcher one in each of the three launcher platoons. These SSM were either equipped with M251 (conventional, with high explosive submunitions) and the American held M234 (nuclear) warheads from 8th US Army Field Artillery Detachment.. Lance served using explosive warhead in a general service role. Lance served between 1979–1992.
Overview[]
The M752 Lance is a 120-point artillery piece that is unique for firing a single tactical ballistic missile. This missile is much larger than any other comparable projectile in the game; at 570 mm, it is more than twice the caliber of the next biggest projectile, namely the 203 mm shell fired by the Soviet 2S7 Pion. It does no AP damage, making it weak against tanks, however, it does 20 HE damage, meaning that any unarmoured unit caught in the blast will die instantly. However, this unit only fires one missile, and the reload time is very long, so it can be nearly impossible to hit a moving target. The Lance is best used to clear out entrenched infantry, or to snipe a command unit. However, the main advantage of the Lance lies in its single shot nature: because it only fires one missile, it is almost impossible for your opponent to spot the units firing position unless they are watching its location when it fires, and as such it is incredibly unlikely that it will be hit by counter artillery.
Trivia[]
- Oddly enough, despite firing only one missile, the game classifies it as a "Multiple Rocket Launch System", presumably to save time the developers simply gave it the same unit class as the other rocket artillery pieces.
