The Mil Mi-24 "Hind" is a Soviet attack and transport helicopter. Mi-24V is the most widely produced version of the infamous attack helicopter, with the first one being revealed in 1976. The Hind-E Keeps the 12.7mm YakB, but replacing the obsolete Fleyta ATGM with the more modern and hard hitting, 9M114 Kokon.
In Wargame: Red Dragon, the Mi-24V was repurposed into an anti-aircraft gunship helicopter, equipped with eight Igla infrared missiles. The attack helicopter role was filled by the Mi-24P, Mi-24VP, Mi-28, and the Ka-50 Akula.
Overview and tacticsEdit
- Decently priced and with a high availability, the Mi-24 Hind-E is not to be blown off. The Kokon sports an above-average accuracy of 11, a rare range of 2800, and an average AP of 20. The helicopter itself comes with a strength of 10 and 1 front and side armour, making it much more durable then any NATO Attack Helicopter.
- With the 12.7mm YakB under the nose of the aircraft, it brings some long-range protection from Helicopters, along with a high RoF, ensuring it will win most Heli-Battles.
In the middle of the 1960s, while the western countries were looking the helicopter mainly as a transport and rescue machine, the Soviet Army look at them as the air counterpart of the battle tanks.
Heavy armed versions of the Mi-8 Hip were in service in those years when the Mil bureau start working in a new prototype called the A-10. This new helicopter, designed primary as an anti tank weapon began tests in 1970 and was seen for first time by NATO in East Germany in 1972. The A-10 soon reached a speed record of 368 km/h.
The first versions uses a standard helo cockpit with pilots side-by-side, but in 1975 would appear the Hind-D with the now traditional attack cockpit in a tandem configuration.
The most popular version, the Mi-24V Hind-E features improved 9M114 Kokon ATGM's, making it a worthwile opponent.
