The MiG-23MLD is a Soviet fighter aircraft available to PACT forces.
History[]
The MiG-23MLD is a single-engine, single-seat, variable-geometry wing fighter produced by Mikoyan-Gurevich for the Soviet Air Force. The MiG-23MLD (NATO Reporting Name: FLOGGER-K) is a second-generation MiG-23 variant with a focus on improved maneuverability. New flight control systems and a "saw-toothed" wing were implemented to improve performance at high angle-of-attack. The type also saw improvements in the form of a new radar, radar warning receiver, installation of chaff and flare dispensers, and the type was given compatibility with the R-73A Vympel missile.

AirLand Battle[]
The MiG-23MLD is a relatively inexpensive air superiority fighter available to Soviet and PACT decks. It is largely an improved MiG-23M, carrying the same cannon and no ECM, but the improved R-73A Vympel air-to-air missile in place of the R-60 Molniya, making the type much deadlier to both helicopters and enemy fighters alike. The R-73A has significantly improved accuracy and HE power, making the MiG-23MLD a deadly force at close range. Due to its lack of ECM and long-range missiles, it is still vulnerable to SAMs and long-range AAMs, but given its powerful loadout at a relatively low price, the drawbacks are far from prohibitive.
Red Dragon[]
The MiG-23MLD in Wargame: Red Dragon is a relatively inexpensive air superiority fighter available to Soviet and REDFOR decks. It is armed with a single GSh-23 cannon and four R-73A Vympel air-to-air missiles. The type is largely identical to its AirLand Battle configuration, however, it has been provided fair ECM (20%), making it more survivable against long-range SAMs and AAMs. The aircraft's strengths and weaknesses are otherwise the same in Red Dragon as in AirLand Battle.
