The Su-27SK is a Soviet exported variant of the Su-27S available to China in Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

The Su-27SK (NATO reporting name FLANKER-B) is an export variant of the Su-27S produced by Sukhoi. It is a twin-engine, two-tail, single-seat supersonic air superiority fighter. The type features a nose-mounted Infrared Search and Track (IRST) system, long-range look-down shoot-down Pulse Doppler radar, powerful ECM, in-flight refueling capability, and weapon stations for up to ten air-to-air missiles. The type began production in 1991, and deliveries to China started in February of that year. Nowadays, it is also named as J-11 in China.

Overview[]

The Su-27SK is China's premier air superiority fighter, available from 1991. Armed with ten missiles broken into four short range fire and forget R-73M1 and six long range semi-active R-27R1, the Su-27SK also features very good ECM and a tight turn radius. The only major difference between the export R-73M1/R-27R1 compared to their Soviet counterparts is a slightly decreased accuracy and stabilizer rating (50% vice 60%). The SK's armament is rounded out with an internal GSh-301 cannon. The Su-27SK is a particularly formidable fighter which can be used in any air superiority role to good effect, from attacking helicopters, to engaging fighters, to intercepting strike aircraft.

The Su-27SK has two chief drawbacks, first is its relatively high cost. At 150 points per aircraft, the SK is worth sending several less expensive fighters to swarm and splash. The second drawback is the SK's lack of a long-range fire and forget missile, which forces the SK to close on and continue prosecuting its original target until its R-27R1 missile hits. This leaves the SK vulnerable to return fire.
