The T-55A is a main battle tank used by the Soviet Union. It is the first variant of the T-55 tank and was introduced in Wargame: AirLand Battle.

History[]

Work on the creation of a tank based on the T-54B medium tank was started in 1957 at Plant No. 183 on an initiative basis under the leadership of L. N. Kartsev. The work was carried out in parallel with the organization of the serial production of the T-54B. The vehicle received the designation "Object 155". When creating the tank, the entire backlog of design solutions was used, obtained during the modernization of the T-54. The first prototypes, as well as the first production batch, were manufactured using the turrets of the T-54B tank. In 1957, two prototypes were manufactured. In the period from the winter of 1957 to the spring of 1958, the cars passed state tests. After that, on May 8, 1958, by decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 493-230 "Object 155" was adopted by the Soviet army under the designation T-55.

The main improvement consisted in the installation of a complete anti-nuclear protection system with an X-ray sensor.

Other improvements include:

  • Increase in engine power by 60 hp from.
  • Installation of thermal smoke equipment that created a smoke screen by injecting fuel into the exhaust manifold.
  • Installation of storage tanks, which made it possible to increase the ammunition load for the gun from 34 to 43 shots, as well as to increase the capacity of the fuel tanks.
  • Supplementing air cylinders with an air compressor for a more reliable engine start, preserving the battery life and eliminating the need to replace spent air cylinders with charged from an external source.
  • Automatic fire extinguishing system "Rosa".
  • Hydropneumatic cleaning of the driver's viewing device and planetary final drive.
  • Unlike the T-54, the DShKM anti-aircraft machine gun was not initially installed on the new tank, since it was no longer effective against jet aircraft with their high speeds.

This tank was supplied to all the zealots of the Warsaw Pact and was the main calling card of the Iraqi army in 1997-2003. For a long period of service of the tank, namely from 1946 to 2009, it had many different modifications, which are also presented in the Wargame series of games.

Overview[]

As for the game, this unit does not show itself badly in a single company. As for online battles, not everything is so rosy here. Due to its rather low parameters, the tank is not capable of conducting an active battle with an enemy whose production year is earlier than 1961. For example, the T-55A in the easy can lose to Kpz. M48A2G2, and this is far from the most real enemy. In Wargame Red Dragon, our real opponents will be various late modifications of the Leopard 1A4 (A5), AMX-32 (40), M1 Abrams, as well as Kpz.70 and MBT-70.

If, nevertheless, you decided and took this tank to your deck, then we recommend using it as a unit of the last line(M1 Abrams has 40 shells, so we will send 41 T-55A to 1 Abrams) or a forester(scout). I am still silent about such units as M1A2 Abrams, Leopard 2A5(NL) Challenger 1 Mk.1 (Mk.2, Mk.3) and Challeger 2 and other similar vehicles with which this tank is not able to fight.
