Wojciech Witold Jaruzelski is a Polish military officer and Communist politician.

On December 13, 1981, he imposes martial law, in which Polish politician Lech Wałęsa was arrested. Two days after, miners in Katowice go on strike to protest the martial law. Jaruzelski sends the army and militia. However, when the militia were about the shoot the protesters, soldiers make common cause with the miners. Within days, mutiny had spread throughout the Polish military ranks. The Soviet occupation force, associated with Jaruzelski's regime, are attacked by mutineers. Jaruzelski regime, along with Soviet forces, went to war over the mutineers.
