The Zachlam (Hebrew: זחל"ם, meaning "Half-Track") is an Israeli Armored Personnel Carrier that appears in Nation Pack: Israel DLC of Wargame: Red Dragon. It is based on WW2-era M3 half tracks.

History[]

On May 14, 1948, when Israel state was founded, Haganah (predecessor of IDF) only has a few M3 armored reconnaissance vehicles obtained from the British. During the ceasefire period from June 11 to July 9, 1948, Israel took the opportunity to purchase more than 100 M2/M3 half tracks from France. Over the next decade or two, Israel continued to acquire a large number of M3 and its derivatives from Europe and the United States.

It was not until the 1970s that Israel obtained the M113s from the United States that the M3 gradually withdrew from the Israeli military service as an armored personnel carrier, but still used as a carrier for various weapon systems.

IDF designated all half-tracks as M3, even vehicles based on M2 and M9 series. M3s served until 1999 and in reserve forces may retire later. During peak periods, over 3500 M3 half tracks were in service in the IDF.[1]

For logistical convenience, Israel has replaced the original gasoline engine of the M3 with a universal 6V-53 diesel engine. The front of the modified engine compartment is a complete armor plate, which is easy to identify (though in-game it is still gasoline engine). In terms of weapons, Israeli M3s are usually equipped with two to three .30 or .50 Browning MGs.[2]

Overview[]

Available to Miluim militias only, while other infantry will use captured BTR-152, therefore it is almost extinct in multiplayer. As an outdated vehicle, Zachlam should not be expected to perform well. The M2 Browning provided standard fire support, and the vehicle itself has no armor to speak of.
