The Zhànshì (Chinese: 战士, meaning "Trooper") is the regular infantry unit of Chinese PLA in Wargame: Red Dragon.

History[]

The Zhànshì (contains the meaning of "Fighter") is a general term for Chinese frontline combat soldiers, and it is the part of the Chinese People's Liberation Army or PLA Ground Forces. The PLA were formed officially in 1949 after the People's Republic of China was established in mainland China. They participated in the Sino-Vietnamese Border Conflict, Sino-Soviet Border Conflict, Sino-Indian war, Korean War, Chinese Civil War, and World War 2 (despite the unofficial establisment of the Army).

As a tangential fact, the Assault Rifle and the LAW are direct Chinese copies of the Soviet weapons (AK and RPG-7). The "TQBZ-56" seems to be a (inappropriate) combination of "Type 56" and "QBZ-56" made by developers.

The 7.62x54mm Type 67 GPMG however, is a interesting "independent" design. It concludes the quick change barrel of the SG-43 and the bolt mechanism on the ZB vz. 26/30 as well as the trigger mechanism of the DP-27. Some Chinese sources even claim it draws inspiration of belt-feed mechanism from MG 08, gas regulator from RPD, as well as some references on Bren and DTM.

The characteristic of this kind of design is that the paper performance will be excellent, but the actual reliability is disastrous. Type 67 also has significant issues with accuracy and concealment, with the only advantage possibly being its weight.

The Type 67 was officially entered service in 1970 to replace the old HMGs and was equipped for the machine gun company of the infantry battalion and the machine gun squad of the infantry company; At that time, SAW was Type 56 RPD. PLA actually has a strong opinion on this weapon and requires direct withdrawing. Even during the border conflict with Vietnam, the Type 53 (SG-43) was still persisted to use.

One more thing to notice for Zhànshì is its portrait (though not presented on wiki). The first large-scale helmet equipped by PLA, the GK80, was first introduced in 1979, therefore the portrait of Zhànshì wearing a helmet is somewhat inappropriate at the time (year dated 1975).

Overview[]

The Zhànshì have the same stats as the Soviet Motostrelki. However, because of the ZSD-63C (2 Front/Side armor and 12.7mm MG), they are more cost-effective in forest fights. Due to the reliable quantity and quality of Zhànshì itself, the advantage of '85 version is not significant compared to its price.

For Red Dragons, players could consider North Korean Bochongsu for AA-capable transports when slot is surplus.
